On history’s trail, Bannack, Montana, 2010

Guidebooks in hand, four tourists explore a bit of Montana’s past at the Bannack Ghost Town. A light snowfall has cloaked the old buildings in white, which adds considerable atmosphere to this image.

Thanks, Carol -- snow is indeed an abstracting force here. It also creates a contrast that calls even more attention to the detail that is not buried under the snow.

Although you have to deal with cold and wet conditions especially for your camera gear, I've always loved snow shots since the white stuff tends to hide much of "reality" limiting the scene to more simple shapes and lines. Here we see more of the details of the "architecture" simply because the white is creating contrast to enhance. The place must hold a lot of interest with tourists.
