Conversation, Sahara Desert, Tunisia, 2009

A picture of a camel is a picture of camel, unless we can make more of it. In this case, I noticed a camel showing its teeth, and so were the fellows standing just behind it. I zoomed in on the beast to stress the detail of the grin (or is it a grimace?) as well as the detail in the expressions of the drivers in the background.

Everything seems to be sinking here, because the men and the camel are standing between two dunes. The Ship of the Desert, indeed!

The logic of this image is perplexing - and continues the metaphor implicit in your title - the sand was created a wave - I can almost understand the camel - but the men seem to be sinking into the ocean of sand.
