2004-12-03: World in a Whorl

Needham / Newton, Massachusetts

Every day when the weather is halfway decent
I walk from my Needham to Newton to get lunch,
crossing the Charles River by an old rail bridge.

Today I brought my camera and shot some
lichen in a knot in one of the weathered ties.
There's even a little bush or tree growing
up in the middle, probably several years old
and almost two inches tall. I'll have to check
back in the spring and try to figure out what it is.

I should have taken time to switch lenses
and use the 100 macro for a proper closeup,
but, hey, I had to get back to the office!

Neat shot. Good study in botany.

Lucky you Peter! A great place to stroll! This one is good, even without the macro. Great crop showing the whorl.
