There is an ice jam that's built up on the Genesee River just south of the lift bridge. This is very unusual (the river freezes but we've not had a jam like this before). It's causing problems because there is a strong river current under the ice that drives the ice into anything in it's way. Needless to say the marina operators along the river are not thrilled as the ice has taken out some docks and done some other damage. There is some speculation it is caused by the design of the bridge supports, which are much wider than the old bridge supports.
The next few days should provide some interesting viewing to see what happens.
