This is a very rare species for Ottawa and quite frankly I did not know what it was when I saw and photographed it. Thanks to David Tyrer and Bruce DiLabio for the ID confirmstion
This species is an uncommon local in the Canadian Arctic, Northern Yukon and Alalska, They winter in old world countries in particular Africa ( Peterson Field Guide to Birds of North America ) The odd one will wonder south into Southern Canada in the Fall
The OFN now have recorded this sighting with supporting docs and photos. It seem this is only the 5th time ever that this species has been recorded in Ottawa (within 50 KM of the peace tower)
