A strange insect.

It was on the side view mirror of my truck. I rotated the pic and did some serious crop and PP to get a decent image. Strange looking, isn't he!!

This is called a "wheel bug." Name from the gear wheel like process on it's back. (Personally I would have named it a 'gear bug'!) Do you see the beak curving down from the front of the head? DON'T pick up one of these babies! They are predaceous on other insects. Will be commonly seed from now through fall.

Strange indeed. Wonderful capture. It is part of the group of insects called True Bugs that includes Stink Bugs. It's been awhile since I had entomology.
