20080528 - TITTC: In the style of Henri Cartier-Bresson

view map

A street trader packs up at the end of market day in Northallerton.

Hmmmmm - Bev - we shouldn't let her out on her own!

For the TITTC In the style of Henri Cartier-Bresson.

So, having studied in-depth (ahem)....

= Stuck the 'standard' 50mm lens on the camera
= Loaded a fast film (well, err, set it to ISO800)
= Bunged it in black'n'white mode (ok, so it's raw, but I put it in mono anyway)

All going really well so far ;-)

= Took fotie... this is where it goes a bit astray ;-) It's not exactly a "Decisive Moment", but it is kind of in the documentary sytle. Ish.
= Didn't crop. Though it really needs it I think to get rid of the car. But the man say no cropping, so we didn't crop.

* Added a bit of noise and pulled up the black-point to give it a bit of an odle-fashioned look. Though having looked though the examples, there's some pretty contrasty pics with quite black blacks... ho hum.
Come to think about it, HC-B didn't mention anything about cloning out.... I wonder what version of Photoshop he had ;-))

Can I have a point for trying please? lol

Outstanding and you took this challenge to heart and tried to duplicate the look of b/w film and succeeded wonderfully. Plus the subject matter is spot on. I give you an A+ and a V. :)

You can indeed have a point for trying, sir! You and I followed nearly the same formula with this challenge (I forgot to bump up to a higher ISO). This is very like Bresson's work to me. Well done!
Dave Hein30-May-2008 08:32
Excellent! This old bird looks like he might have been around in HC-B's day himself!
Dana30-May-2008 05:35
Merciful heavens. You put a lot more thought and research into this than I did. I give you multiple points for trying and even more for a good job!
