20100120 - Domestic God

MonoMonth

Err, well I can boil a kettle and peel a potato! Thankfully I have a proper peeler 'cos it looks like I might just draw blood here...
But then it's not easy peeling taties and taking foties at the same time - lucky I have a modified cable-release :o)

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
1/200s f/14.0 at 73.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Great lighting and choice of f-stop. The DOF is perfect for the subject. V!
Sheila22-Jan-2010 22:35
Super sharp shot! Terrific lighting.

What a great image, nice contrast with the dark background...and I agree, that knife does look dangerous! Curious...how many shots did it take to get this the way you wanted it? - Racine

Who says a man can't multi-task....proof personnified.....unless you used a timer!!
Kevin Chester21-Jan-2010 19:13
Great shot Philip, a very unusual view point with both hands in the shot. I can only assume your modification involved putting the shutter release in your gob
Bernard Davis21-Jan-2010 17:27
Excellent shot.
It takes a 'real man' to press the shutter release when peeling potatoes. ;-)
Máire Uí Mhaicín21-Jan-2010 17:05
:) I thought you might've acquired a third hand like a character in a washing up liquid ad on telly many years ago!
Guest 21-Jan-2010 13:37
An excellent point of view!!!!! Nice light and detail Phillip, be careful with that knife!!!
Sheena Woodhead21-Jan-2010 11:17
Excellent Phillip...great lighting as usual. Hope you still have a right thumb...my left thumb is still recovering from chopping onions last week!
Yvonne21-Jan-2010 10:11
Fabulous shot, I've enjoyed all the comments & your narrative...I wondered how you managed all that too!
borisalex21-Jan-2010 07:51
You pretend to use that knife..:)), but regardless, be careful!
Mieke WA Minkjan21-Jan-2010 06:49
well you did a great job doing both things at the same time
it is btw healthier to eat the potato with skin
Mary Terry21-Jan-2010 04:48
Be careful with that knife...
Fantastic shot! I love the lighting. V
Walter Otto Koenig21-Jan-2010 03:06
Great shot, nice lighting, very sharp and looks very dangerous. I rarely eat spuds, so I've not learned to do this yet. :)
Ray :)21-Jan-2010 03:02
I first did this when I was 4 years old. And I still have the scar to prove it!
Guest 21-Jan-2010 02:58
Great image of such a common chore but very glad to hear you have a proper peeler... that knife makes me cringe :o
Jason Anderson21-Jan-2010 02:53
Very arty shot of a not-so-glamorous job. Somehow this always ends better for the potato than for me...
Cindi Smith21-Jan-2010 02:37
I hate this chore! But this is one fantastic image. Great light and composition. Glad to know you have the pealer and not the knife or ouch! Great image!
Jim Stone21-Jan-2010 02:26
Peeling spuds with a knife is something I've never mastered! And you can do that and take a shot at the same time! LOL.

:-) A very dramatic representation of everyday life, of course I don't peel my own spuds :-) great light..
Jola Dziubinska21-Jan-2010 00:42
Very creative shot, excellent light and details. I believe your thumb remained in one piece :))
slhoornstra21-Jan-2010 00:24
Good trick!! A fine and unusual shot! V
Bill Ewart Jr21-Jan-2010 00:14

Michael Shpuntov20-Jan-2010 23:52
Didn't your mom tell you not to cut toward you fingers :-) Great shot. Excellent light as usual.
Barbara Heide20-Jan-2010 23:42
excellent and funny...watch out fo your thumb....
LynnH20-Jan-2010 23:14
I'm laughing at everyone's comments, and your narrative. But seriously, this is very well done. Bold light and tiny, tiny details are awesome!
Faye White20-Jan-2010 23:13
great shot, very edgy. ;)
Mairéad20-Jan-2010 23:13
Very dramatic!
Herb 20-Jan-2010 23:08
You survived, well done
carol j. phipps20-Jan-2010 22:51
Excellent use of the cable! The angle of the knife and shadows are excellent.
Stephanie20-Jan-2010 22:48
OMG - if this were me I would slice my thumb! (I am terrible with handling knives - we're talking ER & stitches....)
This is a terrific shot Phillip! V
Kathryn20-Jan-2010 22:41
You must wear 'Marigolds' - those hands don't look like housemaids hands,
far too soft and well manicured! Great shot though. Did you have bangers and mash?
Doug Cruden20-Jan-2010 22:23
Yikes! That IS a tad close to the old digits!! Great lighting and shadows though...LOL@JJ :o))
laine20-Jan-2010 22:02
LOL @ John...I can't begin to imagine how....fabulous detail, Phillip !!
Johnny JAG20-Jan-2010 21:44
I shudder to think how it's modified!
Guest 20-Jan-2010 21:39
I love it! VOTED
lisamidi20-Jan-2010 21:25
Aie, this looks dangerous!
But it's a terrific shot and so goood in bw! V
J. Scott Coile20-Jan-2010 21:22
Very Hitchcockesque!
Colin Storey20-Jan-2010 21:19
Nice light, is the cable release modified so that it fits between your teeth?? That knife is rather close to your skin.
