I learn so much from everyone on Pbase, and decided to experiment with
lighting after seeing some of your work. This is a necklace that my
third son engraved for me in 1989. He is a gun engraver, and has studied
with Master Engravers in Germany. The only tools he uses are a hammer
and chisel. What amazes me is that he made this for
me fifteen years ago (when he had only been engraving for three years)
...and it has a sunset (or maybe sunrise) and butterflies.
Fifteen years ago I wasn't thinking of photography, and he hand engraved
this with my two favorite subjects.

I tried it outdoors in natural lighting and it was not good, so I will keep
experimenting. I did this with flashlights and maybe the overhead light...
I can't remember. I must start journaling when I'm learning. Anyway, I
appreciate any help you can give. Just remember I use a point and shoot...maybe someday....

A very beautiful pendant of a necklate and beautifullly engraved with lovely design. And the more it looked so elegant, the way you have composed , framed it and the lighting effect you created on your camera Petisie. Stunning shot.

I think you have done an excellent job with lighting here as the engraving and texture really stands out beautifully. Your son is very talented too. My only suggestion would be to crop it on the left and let the subject fill the frame. Great work and keep on shooting!

Beautiful pendant Petesie! Your sone is truly gifted.
Look like you've got a good start with the lighting thing, I'll be checking back to see what the pros say.

Beautiful lighting! Yes, I tell my wife she MUST take notes (or at least preview the image -- the advantage of digital!) about how she sets her lighting up for her shots, or she'll never remember what works and what doesn't. Your lighting here is something to remember.
