Located one block south of the Royal Mile, this part of the historical Edinburgh Old Town was rebuilt in 1829-1834 as Victoria Street by architect Thomas Hamilton in neo-classical style. On the north side of the street a terrace was built, with a series of arches underneath which were shops with colorful façade. It was the inspiration of Diagon Alley in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
