Two of four bronze horses on the balcony of San Marco Basilica dated back to the antiquity. The set was looted from Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade in 1204. Napoleon took them in 1797 by force and put them atop the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. After his defeat in 1815, they were returned.
Like most Italian outdoor antiques, these are replicas. The originals have been moved to the museum inside the church to protect them from the environment.
