The Church of Santa Margherita dei Cerchi is known as Dante’s church. This painting inside the church shows how Dante might have met his muse, the beautiful Beatrice Portinari, in front of it. Although Dante lived close by, it is not clear whether he attended this church. It is known that it was the parish church of Dante’s wife, Gemma Donati and the Portinari family.
