This group of statues was unearthed in Rome in 1506. It is dated from the 1st century BC and attributed to Athanadoros, Hagesandros, and Polydoros of Rhodes.
It depicts the Trojan priest Laocoön and his sons Antiphantes and Thymbraeus being strangled by sea serpents as a punishment for sounding a warning about the Trojan Horse.
On display in the Octagonal Courtyard, Museo Pio-Clementino, Vatican Museum
