Prior to the 1990 restoration, the tower was leaning precariously at an angle of 5.5 degrees. It now leans at 4 degrees.
Tourists on the 5th level were waiting for the previous group to come down from the top before being allowed to go up.
Fly above the 56m tower is the flag of Pisa with a white cross on red background.
