Tanuki 狸 or raccoon like dogs are native to Japan. Locals believe that they have magical shape-shifting powers. Now, they are modern-day gods of virility, gluttony, boozing, and restaurateurs. They are usually depicted as wearing a wide brim hat, with a wine jug in one hand and an empty knapsack or IOU in another hand.
