Many Chinese who claim to be Buddhists are actually practicing Chinese folk religions originated from ancient superstitions. Here, incense sticks are offered not as preludes to meditation, but to appease the gods in return for good fortune. The middle one asks for 1,000,000% profit. Such craving for worldly pleasures goes against Buddhist teaching.
