Beautiful and humbling. Humans seem clumsy and insignificant in comparison; fortunately our perspectives are altered by your patience and vision.

Whoa!! That thing is right out of a horror movie! AWESOME shot! But I'm gonna have nightmares....

Amazing detail, and you made this ant look HUGE with the DOF!
Guest 19-May-2005 03:08
Thanks, Peter. I had no idea they were that large. That explains the deep dof. I usually try to shoot at f22. In any case, nice shot and you can keep the ant. :-(

Firstly this is a large ant.... around 1 inch long. Sigma 105 macro lens, f18 with Sigma ringflash.

Then processed with Sigma Photo Pro (Sigma ONLY takes raw files) and saved as a double sized, 16 bit TIFF - 80 MB, taken into Corel Photopaint and cropped (you can see the original size here:http://www.pbase.com/peterbray/image/42962401) and very slighly sharpened.

I use the Nikon 105mm micro extensively. I'm curious as to how you shot this to get such deep dof. What lens and what settings? What source of light? This is an excellent shot, very difficult to achieve. I'm jealous.

Excellent micro! Very difficult to obtain that much dof. Nice job.
