Ubehebe Sailing Rock

Death Valley National Park

This might be the first reported image of a sailing rock near Ubehebe Volcanic Crater.
Glenn and I made the discovery and reported to the Park Rangers at the Visitor Center
in Furnace Creek. We were skeptical about this being legitimate but the Park Rangers
said that it appears so and took the GPS coordinates from Glenn to investigate.

Click on the image below for a larger view of a sailing rock/trail on Racetrack Playa, two years earlier:

That is certainly wild and to my untrained eye, looks like a natural event. Thanks for posting this, Sam.

That is exciting. It must have started a loong long time ago and possibly never discovered. that is a spectacular find. they ought to use your names if this is a first time discovery.

a fascinating phenomenon..it seems wide open enough here for cold temps and blustery conditions though...wondrous discovery well documented..
