Ready for a Siesta

Sabino Canyon view map

A Tiger rattlesnake (Crotalus tigris) getting settled in for the day.
My youngest daughter spotted this one crawling through some brush before
I got to taking pictures. This is a very well fed individual and looked
rather funny with such a small head in relation to the rest of its girth.

Excellent shot in this pose. I haven't heard of a Tiger Rattler either so new, fun fact. I'm actually glad I don't see many of these guys though. :) I don't mind snakes, but rattlers scare me - ever since I almost stepped on a well camoflouged guy basking in the early sun.

Very cool! Yours isn't as well marked as others.

Well spotted and photographed Sam. This snake looks very well fed, so it may be a long siesta.

Amazing snake, Sam! Interesting colors, too. I don't believe I have heard of a tiger rattler. Is your daughter old enough to understand venomous snakes?

That really gives me the creeps! I have a big dislike for snakes. Nice capture,Sam..
