An unexpected surprise flying in and out of Washington Dulles International Airport en route to a business trip in the area. The Enterprise Space Shuttle
is seen here waiting for its transfer to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, in New York ( http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/ ).
Enterprise was never put into orbit, instead used as a training craft, and afterwards housed at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum's
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center since 2003. The Discovery Space Shuttle is now permanently housed there ( http://www.nasm.si.edu/udvarhazy/ ).
I actually saw Discovery when I landed on the 18th, but couldn't get to my camera fast enough. The swap-out ceremony was on the 19th.
Gotta love a window seat!
