This is smoke from an incense I was burning for the sake of photographing smoke from an incense. It didn't work out very well either... I'm just too tired tonight to come up with anything.

This picture is beautiful. The fact that you don't like it just shows how sometimes you need to let others decide for you. Good job.
Guest 11-Feb-2004 12:45
Great Job! In many ways this is an excellent pic. I'm looking forward to your next incense session.

Way cool, and so evocative! Tracy!
Guest 01-Feb-2004 01:47
Oh no, this is really really cool. It's almost like the smoke is dancing for your camera, Paul.

Thanks to all of you for your encouraging words. I've seen some people do smoke pictures and catch all kinds of interesting shapes in their smoke. You know, magic genies or faces or things that are real cool! I suppose that's what I was hoping for when I played with this smoke idea, and that's why I was disappointed afterwords. It's true that smoke patterns are quite interesting, but through 50 or more smoke pictures I didn't see any cool shapes in them! THAT'S what made me disappointed. But the longer I look at this picture, and the more I'm encouraged by the many kind comments you all left, the more I think that it's not a bad photo. :) STILL not what I was looking for, but it does have some cool, gentle little swirls. ;)
Guest 29-Jan-2004 10:55
Awesome look at the symmetry of the swirls and the lighting.
OK next picture I take I'm not going to be happy with!
Guest 29-Jan-2004 04:02
Not sure what you're talking about Paul. This turned out great.
Guest 29-Jan-2004 03:56
Amazingly well lit and captured image, Paul. You are the undisputed master of making extraordinary photos out of ordinary subjects... a classic example here presented! =:)
Guest 29-Jan-2004 03:11
Ok ... don't know why you don't love this ... it's awesome! Wild subject .. terrific lighting.

I can't believe this . . . .

Really like this one, Paul! It's amazing when you really look at it how smoke distributes itself! Good job!
Guest 28-Jan-2004 21:15
this came out fantastic, although I love the kitty face too!!

SNAP! LOL!! Thanks for your message Paul, had the same thing last week with Nikki and the windsurfer!! - Nice smoke too!!
Paul Walters28-Jan-2004 19:13
Thanks for all your comments! Angela - I'd love to see you do some smoke pictures. Sometimes they really turn out great, though I haven't had any luck yet! I did this one without realizing that Ian had done it only a few days prior. Now let's see you show both of us up!
Guest 28-Jan-2004 15:51
Quite original and wonderful! I'd be proud to pull off such a photo. :)
Amanda 28-Jan-2004 15:30
I think it is very beautiful. Dont be so hard on yourself.
Meven 28-Jan-2004 15:28
I think it's sexy! I would have been proud to have taken this one.
Good job!

I think it turned out great. It's not the usual "sultry" smoke thing. It looks like painting the darkness with fluid light. Me like.
Elizabeth Glass28-Jan-2004 14:46
Oh man, how cool. I wish I'd thought of that. Great shot!
Jvan Photography28-Jan-2004 14:44
Beautiful swirls!
Guest 28-Jan-2004 14:28
I think it worked out great!! First Ian, now you.. You mind if I try this? I've been dying to try smoke photos, but never thought incense would work! -- angela :)
Ron Lutz II28-Jan-2004 14:14
That's kind of neat!
Guest 28-Jan-2004 08:16
I think it turned out very well. The lines and curves complement each other nicely. The magic genie didn't appear for me either, just a salamander I can't rub or kiss.
