This tower at Moosonee is part of a network that was built to carry telephone signals from Cochrane to Moosonee and then north to Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Attawapiskat. Today, from Cochrane to Moosonee the microwave has been replaced by fibre optic cable that is buried along the rail line. The cable is seen in this photograph running along the far side of the road in the foreground.
