Aliki Faipule Kolouei O'Brien, the head of state of the island group Tokelau sits at a pressconference on the .TK domain in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007. He announced the availability of Web 2.0 services on the .TK domain.
Tokelau derives a healthy state income through their .TK domain names. A Dutch businessman, Joost Zuurbier, has initiated 'Dot TK', a joint venture with the Tokelau nation and its telecom company Teletok. Internet users can register a free .TK domain name at Dot TK. Dot TK then sells ad space on the registered website.
The Tokelau islands consist of three atolls located about 483 km north of Western Samoa. The island state has a population of 1.500. Currently only 120 computers at Tokelau have internet access.
