I suppose he must usually be here, and I often come past here to admire
the camera gear in the nearby shops; but somehow I don't recall ever
noticing him before. Probably wasn't looking around me.

Certainly other people know he's there, since he was pretty busy. After
waiting for him to deal with a couple of customers, I asked if I could
take pictures. He looked up for about a millisecond, gave his permission
(in a tone that said, "Of course!") and returned to work.
