I have visualized the type and quality of photographs I'd like to take, and then I came across your photos and realized someone has already achieved that level of proficiency! Rather than be intimidated by your beautiful work that I haven't come close to yet, I've decided to let it inspire me. I wish you were here in the states to tutor me! You, Neil, are the best landscape photographer I have ever seen. Your use of foreground objects, large depth of field and masterful capture of light is outstanding.

Hi Neil - Excellent work. However, as a 5D owner myself I really would like to know a bit more about your "secrets". For example, it would be great if some of the more unusual shots had some information on what type of ND or polarizer you used, and maybe some of your thoughts and considerations as you were making the shot. For example, I noticed you like to use very long shutter times and tiny apertures, and it would be great to hear a bit about why that is. Clearly you have a huge talent for photography, and I personally want to learn as much from you as I can.

Hello Neil, The work in your My Favourite Shots gallery is an absolute joy to my eyes. The work respects light, content, subject and the art of photography as well as it can be practiced. My hat is off to you, Sir.

Great pics - you're really squeezing the best out of the 7D! I notice you've been getting out near me recently (Peak District). One of these mornings we may well cross paths (Although you'll have the better pics!). Your work is very inspiring and was one of the reasons I bought a 7D. I didn't regret the decision and I keep coming back to see your latest stuff - top notch!

Hi Ramkumar, thanks for taking the time to view my gallery.
I am using the Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Minolta Maxxum (D).
Regarding filters, I use Cokin filters and I'm not really sure about alternatives but Cokin are pretty cheap though, I would get a polarizer and a medium ND grad to start with.
Ramkumar V 06-Dec-2005 08:10
Hi Neil,

I have just order a KM 5D and was searching the KM SLR forum in dpreview.com for extra lens and filter info. Was blown away by your landscape shots. I am really impressed by the "just 2 lenses" approach you have.

It would be helpful if you can take time to answer my 3 questions:

1. Are you using:

"Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Ultra Zoom XR LD Aspherical IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Minolta Mfr# AF06M700"
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=258517&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

OR

"Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical IF Macro Autofocus Lens for Minolta Maxxum (D) Mfr# AF061M700"
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=347534&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

OR

"Tamron 28-300MM XR AF F/3.5-6.3 LD ASP (IF)/Minolta Maxxum"
http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=TM28300XRMAmron 28-300MM XR AF F/3.5-6.3 LD ASP (IF)/MINOLTA MAXXUM

2. I cannot spend big $$$ for cokin polarizer - can you suggest some cheaper alternative?

3. What make model of ND/Haze filter would you recommend (again for a guy with not so fat wallet :->)?

Thanks
Ramkumar

Neil.
I am coming back to your galleries over and over again. Each and every picture you present us here is a unique and complete universe, calling for exploration. I can remember many of your works from KMTF times, nevertheless they always seem so resh and new. Great works and talent, you have a faithful audience in me.

cheers!

Streetworks Photography04-Dec-2005 22:37
Neil,

Just want ed to say your work continues to inspire me -- you're the finest 7D photographer on Pbase in my book -- scary to think what you could do with some nice G primes like the Minolta 35mm 1.4 or the 200mm 2.8. You have such a great eye for compelling compositions, keep posting!
Fred Parsons15-Nov-2005 02:06
Neil - I may have said this before but you make me interested in doing panos - so many people that do them know nothing about how to use the format in conjunction with good composition. You certain do know how to do it. You rank with the very best on the web. Kudos again - Fred
Geoffrey Baker 28-Oct-2005 21:12
Hi Neil, I also saw your photo in the magazine, congratulations on such a great portfolio, you've helped me make my mind up about something.
I've had my 7D for 8 months now and have a Sigma 17-50 EX f2.8 and the Sigma 70-300 Super Macro 2, I've managed a few decent shots when the light is good but most of my shots arent sharp, I was blaming the camera but you've showed me that it's me and not the camera, I now realise I need to use a tripod more to get best results, I was considering selling the lot and getting myself a canon 20d but I reckon I'll keep it now after seeing your results and make more of an effort to do it justice.
Thanks mate, you've just saved me a lot of money lol, keep up the great work.
Geoff.

Hi Joanne, you will be amazed at the quality of the 7D compared to the 7i, if you have that chance you should jump at it. The only lenses I have are the km 17-35mmD and a Tamron 28-300mm which while probably not the best quality lenses in the world, they work great for me.
Neil
Joanne 14-Oct-2005 22:10
I saw your image in 'Digital Photo magazine', and just had to view your website , what an inspiration, I have always avoided photographing landscapes (always thought they looked boring and flat) but you have completely changed my opinion and can't wait to get out there and try my hand and some similar images. I am seriously considering upgrading my Minolta Dimage 7i and will now look at the KM 7D so any feedback on lenses would be helpful -thanks

Your photography has inspired a couple of friends of mine and now me to get the 7D. KM should give you and a couple of other photographers on pBase a cut of the earnings. Amazing work!
Would you mind sharing what lenses you use on your 7D or which ones you'd recommend? I'm buying my 7D and a few lenses and your advice would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks a bunch!!!
