The Hobbit House, a.k.a. the Gnome Cottage (1941)

King Edward Avenue, Vancouver's West Side

"A cozy Cotswold cottage was the model for this quaint residence. The undulating shingle roof imitates thatching;
and half-timbering, rubble stonework, and stucco complete the fairy-tale imagery.
Builder Brenton T. Lea built several speculative houses like this.
Architect Ross A. Lort may have provided the design."
From "Exploring Vancouver" by Harold Kalman, Ron Phillips and Robin Ward

The other two houses are at 3979 West 9th Avenue in Point Grey and at 885 Braeside Avenue
on Sentinel Hill in West Vancouver.

When my grandchild was in Childrens hospital I frequently drove past the Hobbit House, it was always a treat to see, as though I'd stepped into a childs story book. Thanks for the treat in what was an otherwise stressful time in my life.

Is there any more history around this place to be found? Everytime I drive my son to Childrens', we pass by, and I'd love to be able to tell them a story about it!!
