I was one of the people initially assigned (with other "Embassy" staff) to handle the prison in the days right after. They still hung people there. The drop-charts and gallows are still a strong memory of that place. It was a true Dungeon for sure.

This was the primary prison used by Hudson Austin and a key Delta obj on D Day. The incoming birds took very heavy fire and had to wave off. Jerry Boykin, a Sqdn Cdr, was seriously wounded. Later, the CPF installed a retired warden from Bermuda. Col Scott and I visited him and the place was definitely shaping up. It had been used as a prison since the 1700's without a lot of improvements.
