1st Place - c126 Solitude -cool morning fog - Catman

it is a flood plane called the Laguna De Santa Rosa not far from where I now live in Sonoma County Ca and Brenda is correct tons of rain changed this from a small creek to a vast lake. It drains into the Russian River valley.

thanks again for all the nice comments.
I pixel peeped the image and thought the camera was set to the B/W mode by mistake and it was not until I saw the color in the image on the computer that I new I had something special.

Love the composition and how it is almost monochrom... except for the canoe and shoreline

exceptional shot Richard. The composition, mood and subject are all over the top. We do not get many pictures like this in our lifetime.

I like the bit of green - it contrasts the red and makes me reallize the whole picture is color.

thank you all for the nice comments. I have photographed this tree several times after the water level rose but was never impressed. but on this day I saw what I wanted and just waited for the canoe to move to the right side of the tree and there I took several shots of which this was the best.

Really nice, Richard. It's been a tiring day for me and this is very soothing!

I do so agree! The touch of red and green really makes this. Lovely shot.

Wow, this is soooo good!!
The splash of bright orange gives a stong focal point to an already great image.

This is such a lovely shot Richard! I'm a sucker for fog and nothing makes me feel more solitude than fog. I used to love to go walking about my small home town when there was a heavy fog, I always felt like I was the only living soul and I kinda liked that for a short bit of time. I think the person in the kayak must have that feeling a bit.

This is magical! The softness of the mist and light, and the touch of color with the orange, make for a lovely combination. Is this a flooded area? I suspect so, in which case you and I have turned to similar situations for our inspiration. I know you had a lot of rain in your area.
