1st place - C119 Win a trip to Hawaii - Visualizing infinity - brent

To me it seems like the amount of leaves on the ground aproach infinity. They say that if you took all of the grains of sand in all of the beaches of the world - that there would be more stars in the universe than grains of sand. We have such horrible light polution here it would be amazing to be on one of the islands away from the cities and just see the stars.

It is amazing - yesterday we had our first blue skies in a while. It has been just raining for weeks. The benefit of that is how fantastically clear the air is - when you look out at the horizon there is no gray haze - just a clear light blue.

Endika espressed how I feel when I see this shot, a quiet feeling, also in trees the air smells so good! The damp ground the decaying leaves and undergrowth, all make for a wonderful place to be. This is gorgeous Brent and those roots seem like fingers reaching out to touch you. I love this photo.

No stars either here, to much light polution and haze.
I agree in that some forests seems to be infinite because they looks almost identical in any direction you watch, and they are so quiet. You've represented this feeling masterly! endika

I love the way those roots reach out towards eternity.
we do have good star gazing here... but if you go to the big island and go up on the volcano, it takes your breath away

Not only is this a wonderful shot with its glorious golden hues and wonderful tangle of roots, but the narrative description is equally fine. We have almost no light pollution where I am, so gazing into the night sky is a humbling - almost terrifying - experience. The Milky Way stretches in a ribbon of light across half the visible heavens. I can imagine millions of worlds, some of them perhaps searching for ours, as we are seeking them. Even so, when I try to conceive of infinity, I can't get my head around it. The universe is so vast and fathomless. I am a single molecule within one tiny sand grain.
