The Lesser Redpoll L 11-13cm (4.3-5.1") breeds in coniferous and birch woodlands, in scrubs in open landscapes like moorlands, sand hills and barrens. The nest is build in branch forks. The Lesser Redpoll is restless and spry, and is an acrobatic climber on even the thinnest twigs. The Lesser Redpoll is a small brown and beige striped bird with a small yellowish bill, white wing bars, dark brown bib, a dark forehead with a orange or red spot. The larger Common Redpoll is more greyish than the Lesser Redpoll. |
