If you thought the first Cackling Goose in this group of photos was small take a Gander at this one. The very back bird in this photo is an obvious Gadwall male, the bird to its right and slightly angled is a Cackling Goose; look at undertail coverts and cheek. I watched this goose swim with the Gadwall, side by side for 30 minutes and at no time, no matter if it were on this side or the other it was smaller! Unfortunately the birds stayed behind a large contengent of normal Canada Geese and this was the only regognizable shot comparing the two. Pretty darn small goose..........
