A rare Pholiota on fallen willow wood, which the FRDBI state is not an authentic British species. They list, however, 3 records and the CATE database has 2 records. It is characterized by the pointed bristles or bristly scales at the cap margin & onto the cap, the bright orange colours and coarse, irregular pore surface. It is in the same group as the common Pholiota brumalis and apparently has been mistaken for that species. The latter lacks the bristles, is usually more or less smooth-capped, has a fine pore surface and is usually some shade of grey or grey-brown. Confirmed by Michael Jordan of the FCT. A single.
