This series of images, taken at one-second intervals late in the afternoon of
February 24, 2006, shows the apparent movement
of the sub-sun as the aircraft flies from left to right past the NE face
of the N peak of Three Fingers. This apparition is caused by
sunlight reflected off ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.
Note that the sub-sun lies to the west of the peak and is partially blocked by it.
