The store was in continuous operation from 1817 into the 1960's and served planters in the Bayou Boeuf area
The store was burned during the US Civil war but was rebuilt after the war. The adjacent Bennett house and store was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and both were moved from their original location to part of the Inglewood Plantation near Alexandria
At the time this photo was taken the store was under reconstruction
