One of the most beautiful and quiet places in Louisiana is the Alexandria-Pineville National Cemetery. It is the resting place of many veterans. As the marker indicates, there are also many buried here whose identity cannot be determined.
The cemetery was established in 1867 from property appropriated to bury Union soldiers who were buried around central Louisiana. Remains are now buried here from several other National cemeteries which were closed. The cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As with any national cemetery, it is a very difficult place for me to visit, knowing that these souls served our country.
