3rd: standing still - niamh

the locomotive they are looking at is the Mallard, holder of the world speed record for steam
locomotives (126 miles per hour) which it achieved in 1938.

thanks for your comments remmelt! I will give it some thought about the roof. :)

This is almos a scary picture. Seeing it makes me thinking about some scary movie. That's caused by the 'static' huge locomotive and the 'static' mother with kid and the non-static walking people. My only comment is the blue distracting roof. But eh, it was there and removing it might totally destroy this impressive pic.

thanks tom! Hadn't thought of that but now I see what you mean!

Great shot, my fav so far of 19! They really do look like they're waiting for the train to pull up so they can get onboard.

C'mon baby do the locomotion! Good shot! The motion of the people in contrast with the two people standing still really looks great. The locomotive as such would already be a fitting subject but this image gives much more.

Reminds me of that 'back to the future' movie ;-) Wel spotted, niamh ! I like the slight tilt in the image, intensifying the sense of motion.

thanks for your comments guys, this was one of those chance shots - I did not ask the lady
and her grandson to stand on the yellow spot and stare. :) With hindsight, I wish I had taken a polariser or ND filter with me as I am not very keen on the bright highlights along
the top of the loco. John, in answer to your question the camera was handheld, but I remembered to
switch on AS (for once) and was braced against a balustrade overlooking the hall.

Hi Niamh,

What a perfet title. The cirle on the ground and the stillness of the two persons makes the shot. It makes me feel the admiration the little kid has for that very interesting locomotive.

G'day Niamh. Nice shot. Good idea and well executed; it give s good sense of movement through the moving people and the contrast with the couple standing still. At 1/5sec, did you have something to steady your camera against for such a clear shot? Cheers, John
