.. of my college days, when I was strolling around art studios.
Love this stone work of yours, Rene!

Hi Rene, good shot. Makes me wonder about who carved it and how it was carved.

Fascinating sculpture. It makes me curious of when it's from, for whom and for what sacred or profane purpose it was made etc. When I looked at the full picture in the CX-thread I saw that he/she is grinding something in what appears to be a mortar, which makes me speculate that the figure might be a symbol for one central period in the timecyle that structured these peoples lifes. Such an interpretation adds a structuring aspect of the sculpture to the one already there i the stone it's made of. Nice image in any case.

To Adrianox
Adrian thank you for your very kind words. These competitions are really helping me with my photography. A few months ago I would never have thought about background much less colouring etc. Now when I shoot a photo I try to consider everything. I am glad that you think he is interesting.
Kind Regards
Rene

Hello Jose
I agree with you, I can't quite make up my mind about being sad or scarry. I will take a photo of the complete sculpture and post it as a thread on the Minolta Forum the whole sculpture is quite bizarre. I bought him in the Solomon Islands 2 months ago and to this day I still quite don't know why I did, and my girlfriend who was with me at the time was amazed that I did :-). Possibly because he was so different from any of the other stone carvings there. My girlfriend was there last months and bought a more traditional carving for me which is more pleasing to the eye, but possibly not as interesting.
Kind Regards
Rene
PS Thank you for the critique.

g'day rene - good to see you entered for the challenge - i found myself drawn to similar subjects today at the brit. museum... this is a powerful image in it's simplicity, and the good dark background serves to emphasize the facial features, and texture of the stone.

thanks for this gem.

It scares me... or is "he" sufering? I don't know. But that face it's more than a piece of wood. (grrrrrrrrr). Ok, nice pic and the darker side gives it a (???) of mistery.
