You could call this the "first generation" though a few have already left by this time as gifts.
From the left-a long cedar which is smoothed down from the top of a cedar tree which has been on the ground for at least five years.

Second is an interesting piece of oak-it had been on the ground for awhile and had the right feel. I sent it as a gift to a friend of my wife after embedding a small "eye" of very blue turquoise in the head.

Third is a pretty little knobstick that fell of a large oak after a storm. My wife has laid claim to it.

Last is an oak twist which came from a tree in my yard. I decorated the barked handle with blue turquoise (after this pic was taken-see the handle in this gallery) and donated it to a charity auction for Relay for Life.

In the foreground is a very hard dogwood mallet that I carved as sort of a "by-product" of my hobby. I have since made three of these out of this rock hard, five years-seasoned wood.

All the above were oiled with five to seven coats of Danish Oil for a silky to the touch finish.

I never thought I would see another walking stick collection! I have saved mine since the late 70's. Each road trip warranted a new stick. I would carve a little history into the sticks while on the trip so I would remember when and where I used them.
Walk on my friend!
