When I first began to look for sticks and develop my eye, I noticed this on an old oak tree in the little patch of "woods" on my subdivision lot. It turned out to be one of my favorites and a real learning experience. It's solid oak and light, but very tough. My wife has made it one of her own!
I did some experimenting with the finish and re-did it several times until this particular feel just grabbed me.
