Papey Island was once home to Irish monks 1100 years ago and has been occupied
by a succession of families until 1966. The island has several homes and a
church and is occasionally occupied by family members of the current owner.

This tower monitors off-shore weather and transmits its information to the
mainland giving local people warning of approaching storms.
