F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter

The F-117 Nighthawk is the world's first operational aircraft designed to exploit low observable stealth technology. This aircraft is flown by pilots of the 49th Fighter Wing, Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. The F-117 is a single-seat fighter and is designed to penetrate dense threat environments as well as attack high value targets with pinpoint accuracy.

In the late 70's they used to fly these out of the Skunk Works, in the dead of night, up through the Mt Humphry's basin area on their way to the Tonopah Test Range. They would stay quite low to the ground, maybe a couple hundred feet or so. Imagine being camping in the middle of nowhere and seeing (and hearing) one of these zip right over you at 400-500 miles per hour. It was another 10 years or so before the government acknowledged their existence and I found out what it was.
