GALLERY:: Asian "Tim-esques" ::January 2005

My wife calls pictures like this, "Tim-pictures." On the trip several people would say to me, "There's a 'Tim Picture.'" Even though they never saw my pictures on my computer, I guess they could tell what I was focusing on when I was taking them. So we started to call this type of picture, "Tim-esque." I'm not really sure what makes a picture "Tim-esque." There are elements - abstact, macro, attention to overlooked detail - but I do seem to take pictures in this style. So, I decided to collect the images that I see as tim-esque and put them together in this sub-gallery. I have chosen the pictures that, hopefully, use my style, or eye, to capture the spirit of the trip in another way.

aha - i see that i did already note my appreciation for this gallery. So keenly observed, these images are like visual haiku - the world in grains of sand (to mix literary metaphors). Who but you could find delight in...chicken feet! these images evoke all the senses.

"Tim-esque"- adj. def: 1. An image with a strong graphic appeal. 2. An image that makes the most of small juxtapositions of texture, shape and form. 3. An image with bold, saturated colors. 4. A Very Happy Way of Seeing! Lovely stuff, Mr. Esque.

These are more personal images than travel images, and you increase their power manyfold by grouping them together their own gallery, where they can accumulate meaning, image by image. When we are finished looking at them, we know as much about you,Tim, as about Southeast Asia, and that is the way it should be. This gallery demonstrates how you see, particularly things that others would miss. And how you consistently make the most of your discoveries as interpretive, expressive images. Almost all of them are small things that represent larger truths. Many of these are Macro images that can stand as metaphors for aspects of life itself. We are in your debt for sharing these insights with us. They are truly Tim-esque.
