Beijing was industriously getting ready for the Olympics. Part of this process included restoring many of the famous sites. Here are some beams awaiting restoration.

I agree - I am not sure if they are going to have time to completely restore all the painting - if one wanders around the side sections of the Forbidden City and I think you can still find these weathered beams.

It's almost a shame to restore away the beautiful designs in the beam though, Olympics or no Olympics. I love the rough crackly texture here which shows age and history .... and wear. Nice detail shot.
