-WHO INVITED YOU?-
Tecopa CA February 2007

This deserted house sat atop a small hill. As we approached, we noticed that the ghost of the house seemed to be standing in the doorway with an attitude.

This picture almost makes me believe in ghosts!!! The foreground appears to be a barricade trying to prevent its return, but this is one determined ghost. It makes me wonder what secrets this house holds.

Thanks, Tim. As far as I'm concerned, it does.

Wow! I love the sentence "Expressive photography comes from the soul, not the camera."

I am fascinated how we both photographed the same subject, yet told entirely different stories. Your image speaks of not only desolation, but the hardness of life. Your empty window represents a hole in the "soul" of this lifeless place. I chose to stress the detail on the surface of the building instead, and include a smaller window instead of the larger one. (http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/75093043 ) You offer more context than I did -- while I stressed the figure's trenchant body language and the rotting door. Using the same subject, each of tells our story differently. This comparison is further proof that there are no "right or wrong, better or worse, good or bad" ways to deal with a particular subject. Those that think photography is a matter of following rules or competition standards, are doomed to stagnation. Expressive photography comes from the soul, not from the camera.
