This is an animation of the Summer Milky Way Galaxy as seen looking south from Albany, Missouri. The camera was mounted on an equatorial telescope platform and allowed to track the stars as they moved from East to West. Because of this the earth appears to move to the east while the stars remain still. This produces an interesting effect. Notice the clouds on the horizon as they moved in during the exposures. Many galactic star clouds and nebulae can be seen in the shot. The constellations Sagittarius and Scorpio dominate the scene. The pink areas in the upper left are camera noise from the electronics. (This full animation is around 700K and will take a while to download on a dial-up connection.)
