Comparison with 50, 85 and 105 mm primes

Nikkor 18-70 f3.5-4.5 DX and Sigma 18-50 f2.8 DC compared here to Nikkors 50 mm primes; f1.4 and f1.8. Another pair added: Nikkor 85 mm f1.8 AF-D and old manual focus Nikkor 105mm f2.5 Ai. Pics from those two lenses were downsampled to get the same field coverage. Notice the incredible Nikon 85mm sharpness, contrast and colours !

You certainly got the point there, Spinazza when (and if) it comes to evaluating lens resolution. However, since I trust lab resoluton test only, this comparison was performed primarily for comparing contrast and color saturation. It is understandable that downsampled pic (as is the case with 85 and 105 pics) will appear much sharper than 50's pics presented at 100% size. So please just ignore the resolution (or sharpness) issue in this case.

How can you compare 85 and 105 with 50s if you don't change the point of view?
I'm sorry, but comparing 85, 105 with 50s, at the same point of view, is like comparing apples to oranges.

This is a wonderful comparison! Thanks! It served me to see all those lenses in context. I own some of these, but looking at them all so very well compared it is a great pleasure.

Thanks!
diego.
