The weather was supposed to be miserable on the Saturday I took this photo, but I had seen the radar the night before and it looked like the rain was sliding off to the north. I got up early and checked again and the south east corner of the Cape where Chatham is located looked like it might be dry even though there was light rain elsewhere. This turned out to be the case and it made for a dramatic sky in this photo.
