Shanghai (Heart of Yangtze River Delta)
China's foremost metropolis, and financial and industrial center, Shanghai will host the World Expo in 2010. Possessing one of the largest ports and one of the most advanced transportation and trade networks in China, it's the hub for one of the country's growth engine regions known as the "Yangtze River Delta" or YRD. Once a banking center of the Far East during the early 20th century prior to the communist rule, today Shanghai is again home to many global banks and financial houses. Shanghai's industrial prominence lasted through the decades following the establishment of the People's Republic and has built up what's known today as the "six pillar industries" namely, auto, communications, power & electromechanical, chemical & petrochemical, steel & iron, as well as biomedical industries.
