Harris's Sparrow

McKenzie area; Carroll Co. TN

I would have had some really nice digiscope shots of this bird, IF I had grabbed the right camera. In my hurry last night I grabbled my old Coolpix, which would have been fine, if it had a battery in it!. My Pentax that I shoot normally with, isn't quite up to the challenge of digiscoping, but it was all that I had.

But, with a lot of magnification anyway, the pale fringes that are yet to wear off are visible, especially on the crown. From any distance, it just looks black though. The head initially appeared gray to me, but once again, with better looks, isn't quite there.

It was really nice to hear this bird singing up a storm! Hopefully it will stay a little longer and let me get some decent shots yet.
