This shot shows the spread tail pattern, as the tail is cocked to the left, with the rufous tips to the outer rectrices. This, and the very bright colors, point to the eastern Mexico subspecies, Columbina talpacoti rufipennis. The western subspecies, C.t.eluta, is duller and lacks the rufous tips to the rectrices. 'eluta' is the form that most NA records pertain to, principally from AZ.
